Udupi: Congress makes clean sweep of Varambally gram panchayat for 2nd time

Udupi, Jun 13: The exciting news of the gram panchayat election results is finally out after a number of days of battle between party supported candidates. Congress party has once again broken the record at Varamballi panchayat by erasing the shadow of the BJP from the root level for the 2nd time.

In the current elections Congress supported candidates won 18 seats out of 18 seats with the leadership of Birthi Rajesh Shetty. Congress grew strong right from root level in Varamballi gram panchayat after Jayaprakash Hegde entered Congress in 2008. Prior to this, he was an independant candidate. Varamballi ran out of seats in the previous year as well where they grabbed 16 out of 16 seats.

In Handady gram panchayat, BJP won 15 seats out 18 seats. In Chantar gram panchayat Congress failed to get majority seats out of a total of 26 seats. Congress party supported candidates got the majority seats of 13 out of 19 in Harady gram panchayat.

This will be the second time congress has made a clean sweep under the leadership of Rajesh Shetty. The public of Varamballi panchayat has proved that Congress has been responding to their grievances and has also been working towards development.

Similarly, Karje gram panchayat stood winner by getting majority of 9 seats out of 12 seats.

While taking an overall view of the GP election results no panchayat has got complete seats for Congress supported candidates except in the case of a Congress, Mallappa who got 409 out of 409 votes at Chikkaballapura district. The opposition party candidate Geetha failed to get a single vote.

According to the party activist’s opinion, Congress has a good stand in Brahmavar region. Recently, Birthi Rajesh Shetty resigned from Brahmavar block Congress president post due to certain reasons in April. If Rajesh Shetty retains the same position, then there is no doubt about the party grabbing majority seats in Brahmavar as a block or as a constituency. Lack of leadership skills and internal conflicts within the party in Udupi district will lead to its defeat. However, if Brahmavar gets a good and efficient leader for block Congress party, the people will undoubtedly be united in future elections.
