Mangaluru, Jun 13: The valedictory of the week-long anti-tobacco campaign in the city by Superhits Red FM 93.5 was held at Tribhuvan Hero premises here on Saturday June 13, with ACP (traffic) Udaya Nayak bringing the curtains down by signing his name.
Addressing the gathering, ACP Udaya Nayak said, "Smoking causes cancer and many other health problems. Enjoy with Red FM 93.5 but quit smoking. Tobacco in any form is dangerous to health. Government has imposed many rules and regulations to control smoking. We have been imposing fines on people who smoke in public. I congratulate Red FM on taking such a nice initiative."
'Ekka Saka' Tulu movie producer Ln Kishore D Shetty said on the occasion, "Tobacco has many ill effects on health. We have seen many people suffering from cancer due to habitual consumption of tobacco. People should not fall prey to this bad habit. We should try to convince as many people as possible not to smoke. I congratulate Red FM on their initiative in creating awareness on the ill effects of smoking and tobacco consumption."
MD of V4 Media Laxman Kunder said, "Many youngsters are falling prey to smoking. As I am from sports background I can say children who play sports will not smoke, as then they will not be able to play. So parents should encourage children to take part in sports activities. Eating junk food also needs to be stopped, as it has bad effects on human health."
Ekka Saka' Tulu movie lead actress Sonal Monteiro said, "College students and high school children are taking to smoking more nowadays. Government needs to ban smoking as it adversely affects the health of not only the smoker but also of the people around him."
Udayavani Mangaluru bureau chief Manohar Prasad said, "For the first time a private organisation has conducted such a nice campaign to create awareness on the ill effects of smoking. I congratulate Red FM on conducting this campaign. Tobacco is called a silent killer. Passive smokers also get affected due to smoking. We live in a global village and this habit of smoking can spread everywhere like a communicable disease. Youngsters are getting more and more trapped in this bad habit. I appreciate the efforts of Red FM in creating awareness against smoking."
