Modi stopped me from quitting as MP: Deve Gowda

Bengaluru, Jun 14 (DHNS): JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda admitted on Saturday that he was 24/7 politician, but he said he had decided to keep himself off electoral politics in the future.

Participating in an interaction with the media, he said he had been in politics for 54 years and served in various positions through his long career. “I have decided to not contest elections in the future. I am 83 years old now. But it does not mean I have lost interest in politics. I will continue to work for the party (JD-S),” he said.

Gowda, who is a Member of Parliament from Hassan, said he had offered to resign as MP as announced during the 2014 parliamentary polls. “I had said I would resign if the BJP led by Narendra Modi wins more than 276 seats. I offered to resign as announced. But Modi stopped me saying such statements were common in politics, and that the Lok Sabha needs experienced MPs like me,” he said.

He said except Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, none of the leaders who left the then Janata Dal criticised him. It could be B L Shankar, V S Ugrappa, C M Ibrahim, R V Deshpande, V Srinivas Prasad and H C Mahadevappa, they did not criticise him unnecessarily, he added.

Siddaramaiah is under the impression that because of Gowda’s conspiracy, he missed an opportunity to become the chief minister in 2006. The late J H Patel was the deputy chief minister when Gowda (who was the then chief minister) went to Delhi to become the prime minister. The Janata Dal then had a total 36 Lingayat legislators. The party would have lost power if it had made Siddaramaiah the chief minister, Gowda said.

He expressed doubt over the Janata Parivar coming together in the future and sought to know where the Parivar was, in reply to a question on the efforts being made to unite the Janata Parivar.

AB Vajpayee is the best PM India has ever seen.Let's give some time to Mr Modi for Improvement which he has promised. Nothing can happen overnight/in a year. Guys first let him complete his term of 5 years. If there is any drastic changes only then can we compare him with Vajpayee.

make BJP /JDS alliance.. not that BJP alone is NOT enough!... but many people like me, will never want to have bitter infighting and corrupt BJP leaders to hog lime light again... let Kumaraswamy be the consensus candidate of alliance and let him be the CM.. he atleast does decent work! ... I dont want BJP to be in power, reason, is, 2019 election, I want BJP at center and whatever Karnataka elects, opposite of it happens in center... so let JDS govt be there from outside support of BJP, and Modi rule center!.... thse JDS guys have secular image also, and have made few leaders from nowhere, unlike congress chamchas!.... Gowda will also be dead by then so no need of blackmailing! vhe vhe vhe

Sunil, don't daydream your wishes won't be fulfilled. Forget BJP (BAGHOODA JUUMLA PARTY) in Karnataka in the near future but in centre also they would be finished. Indian citizens are not crazy to pay more taxes and high prices more commodity & petrol for nothing. Only FEKU's roaming purpose?

In the fast moving world and during the scientific age your slow moving brain does not respond properly. Because of this decision making would delay which hinders the progress of society. So, we request you kindly take political sanyasa and pave way for the young and hot blood who can cope up with current requirement.

Gowda wants to break record of late jyoti basu.
New alliance with BJP will make congress in complication.
Will give a pivotal role to Kumarswamy as a chief minister and next to yeddyji.
Roller-Coaster once again start to work in the same direction to throw away congress from karnatka forever.

If Modi stopped Deve Gowda from quitting as MP, then Gowda, doesn't have his own brain, he has a borrowed one.
Through this statement, he has expressed his inability to think on his own for him. Somebody else has to do it for him. Dependent!
No leadership quality to lead a party. Better get merged, sooner is better.
