Blocks at Charmadi everyday scene, Shiradi work still beyond comprehension

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Jun 14: Traffic block at Charmadi ghat is everyday  scene now. Passengers of late have taken this issue as a natural thing.

Charmadi- Everyday woes

Traffic blocks on Charmadi ghat on Thursday, Friday and Saturday affected the passengers a lot. The most dangerous thing about the block at this ghat is- passengers cannot go anywhere from the place they are stranded. The fact that their vehicles can neither move forward or backward is understood because it is a traffic block. But they cannot even go walking to get some food or toilet facilities nearby. This is the worst situation one faces especially during rainy days.

It was reported that deputy commissioner had ordered Charmadi panchayat to provide basic facilities for the passengers. But the panchayat has not done anything in this regard so far. But the question is where to provide these facilities? Charmadi panchayat can provide facilities only inside its jurisdiction. What about in the ghat section? Passengers cannot just come to Charmadi panchayat limits to have food and avail toilet facilities.

The traffic block goes on. Nobody seems to care about it. Additional problem is the traffic diverted to this ghat because of the closure of Shiradi ghat.

Shiradi work beyond comprehension

One needs to be a genius to understand the Shiradi ghat problem. Pages of essays can be written on the ghat with the available information. But that information is of no use to anybody. It will not solve the road problem anyway.

It is now said that the Shiradi ghat will become roadworthy from July 20. The concerned people have forgotten all their promises as they made several promises in the past one year. They have given ‘Inauguration’ dates randomly from the calendar without seeing the ground realities on the ghat.

It is not that the work is not being done on Shiradi ghat. It is indeed being done. But a look at it makes us think that we are in the year 1950. One can see concretisation being done with the help of tent to stop the rain water falling on the road. Where are we?

Nobody knows which engineering college these engineers and planners went to? They simply do not know the power of monsoon in the region.

It should be remembered that even if the ghat opens on July 20, it is just for few days. Then they will have to close it again as tender process for another 13 kilometres is yet to be completed.

Bengaluru from Mangaluru will become farther with two ghats having problems all the time. Sufficient train service between the two cities is also a distant dream. The High Court order which came this week is a relief. But till all these things are sorted out, the passengers can reach Bengaluru easily only through internet.

Sad commentary on Sleeping Sidhu Govt which is only dreaming about introduction of another "bhagya" scheme in its pursuit for vote bank politics. Good Governance has taken back seat and corruption on rise.

dear friends, it would be better if we give them sometime to complete the work .Incase , the people put pressure the work will not get completed with quality .tomorrow we will will start complaining that they have not done a good job if the road starts getting cracked. Now that we have already waited for 5 months , let us give them a few more months. There are some jobs taken up by BBMP in Bangalore like for example one bus stop near Mekhri circle is not completed from last one year.I think instead of complaining lets see the obstacles like prior rains etc which have delayed the completion of work on shiradi ghats.

Charmadi/Shiradi Ghats have enough substance that can facilitate our so called Road Engineer's for pursuing their PhD in road engineering and politicians can deliberate these issues for political mileage irrespective of any party they belong. Feel pity for the commuters who need to suffer for no fault of there's.

Swiss Alphs roads must have far less than Charmadi and more challenging. Quality wise they are many times better! Where are we? I do not want to blame any political party because none of them have leaders capable of handling such issues!!
My suggestion is give the contract of design and build to reputed foreign company even if it cost few times more so that we can have solution for several future decades!!

It is rather depressing that Mangalore residents have to suffer like this for last 5 years or more. It is time that residents blocked every politician from travelling on this road irrespective of parties. During Yeddy in state and congress in center too the situation was similar, roads were were non existent in the ghats. All Mangalore press shd start a campaign to hgihlight this and wake up our politicians in B'lore and Delhi

Blocks at Charmadi everyday scene, Shiradi work still beyond comprehension-rightly said and well written. No doubt about it. This is the everyday problem faced/experienced by the Mangalore-Bangalore commuters by road. No end for it. Promises given by the concerned authorities are indeed fake/false and not worthy to take note of it. Promises are many without knowing the ground reality, just to pacify the public hue and cry.
Taking this opportunity, even bus operators are fooling the passengers by taking different routes as per their whims and fancy in order to reach their destination as early as possible and by ping the passengers at unknown stops at night by convincing the passengers with their false promises.
Recently it happened so to my daughter while coming from Bangalore to Mangalore and she was to alight at Lalbaug, where I was waiting for her arrival since 5.30 am. She came by Ideal Travels. According to her, she kept on asking the conductor that whether it goes to Lalbaug or not? Conductor was telling her, yes, it is indeed going to Lalbaug. Whenever she questioned him, his answer was the same. But as the bus took other route, which she didn't even know the name of the place, came via Talapady and ped my daughter at Falnir (Milagress) bus stop instead of Lalbaug in order to reach their designated place on time. After waiting so long I called her up and asked about her arrival and by that time she narrated the story of her ordeals/problems, difficulties faced in Ideal Travel's bus. This is the trend of the bus operators to cheat and fool the innocent, gullible passengers. They are not bothered about the passengers under what tensions they are in and their kinds waiting at usual bus stops. Request ,Concerned authorities should take note of it and address the issue in the best interest of the people.

We have two India`s. One which sends probes to other planet and the other one which cannot find a solution for upkeep of its roads. India`s achievement has equally matched by mediocrity at all levels.

Both Chickmagalur and Mangalore DCs are done little to tackle traffic movement under the circumstances of Shiradi Ghat's repair.CPWD virtually slept for all these days.Last week I drove through Charmadi where in some spots it is extremely difficult to move safe.Rocks are fallen to road due heavy rain and 2-3 JCBs are only clearing debris!!Some spots in charmadi are very narrow and dangerous and I have seen so many accidents in the stretch.During Monsoon season it is very difficult to commute and IN CHARGE MINISTERS of CHICK-MANGALORE(ABHAYA-RAI)must look in to the matter very seriously.
