Mumbai, Jun 14: Prakash Bhandary, who is presently serving as assistant commissioner in the intelligence wing of the Mumbai police department, will soon become the additional commissioner of Mumbai, as per sources.

The decision has been already made and an official announcement in this regard will be made very soon, sources from the government said.

Prakash Bhandary, a Kannadiga, started his career in 1985 as a sub-inspector in the police department. He has served in Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai areas. He has seen many promotions in the department for his impeccable service before reaching the current position.

He was known as a thorn in the flesh for the underworld elements when he worked in the crime branch. A team comprising Pradeep Sharma, Prakash Bhandary and encounter specialist Daya Nayak was not only a threat to underworld but also to terrorists.

Prakash Bhandary has another feather in his cap. That is, he has shown that even top police officers can engage themselves in social service. He has been busy in the Chinnara Bimba social service movement for the past twelve years.

"Police service is my first priority. But I also have social service as my passion. Tulu Kannadigas have been very supportive in our Chinnara Bimba, an educational and cultural movement. Our mottos are to preserve our Tulu and Kannada culture and also help people to get education in Kannada," Bhandary says.

The new BJP-Shiv Sena government has prepared a list of transfers and promotions in which Prakash Bhandary’ s name tops the list, it is learnt.
