Puttur: Two from Bengaluru dead, two injured in serial accident

Puttur, Jun 14: Two persons were killed and two others injured in a serial accident here on Sunday June 14.

The deceased have been identified as Sooryanarayana (64) and Gopinath (45), both residents of Bengaluru.

It is said that they were travelling in a Swift car from Bengaluru towards Puttur, when the car skid, hit a Hyundai i10 car, and then rammed into another vehicle at Kaudichar. 

The injured persons, identified as Karthik and Vittal, have been admitted to hospital. Their condition is said to be serious.

Sooryanarayana and Gopinath were travelling to Bannur to attend the final rites of Venkataramana Rao, a relative. It is learnt that just minutes before the accident, one of the deceased had called the house of the relative at Bannur and said they would be reaching in ten minutes. When they did not reach even after an hour, the final rites were performed. When the relatives called them on their mobile phones to check, someone at the accident spot answered and told them about the accident.

Sources said that the accident happened at a spot where road work is going on, and this has been blamed for the mishap. Eyewitnesses said that the Swift car was moving at a high speed.

Puttur rural traffic police have registered a case.

    Again and again one reads of the accidents and serial accidents. It is said that at the cite of the accident road repairs were going on.

    Wherever road repairs are undertaken normally CAUTION boards are put up to warm pedestrians and motorists. Whatever the cause is accidents and worse still serial accidents are on the increase and therefore it is expedient THAT ROAD SAFETY COMMITTEES (if any) should make a serious study of the cause of the accidents and evolve ways and means to find suitable methods to avert the accidents.
