Koppal, Jun 15: A woman, who could not digest the loss she suffered in the gram panchayat (GP) election, went through depression, and eventually died of fever. Her father-in-law, who could not take the shock of the young daughter-in-law's death, collapsed and died.

Renuka Gurikar from Kadralli village in Yalburga taluk of the district had fought from the ward earmarked for general category. She was defeated by a margin of 14 votes. She went through depression at the loss, and soon started to suffer from fever. Treatments could not improve her condition, and as such, she was admitted into a private hospital at Hubballi. She did not recover, and breathed her last on Saturday.

When the news of her death was conveyed to her father-in-law, Dyamanna, over phone, he collapsed to the ground and died on the spot, family sources said.

Cremation of both the bodies was conducted on Sunday.
