Mangaluru: Truck topples near Kuntikan, people feast on fallen cashews

Mangaluru, Jun 15: A truck laden with cashews met toppled near Kuntikan here on Monday June 15 evening, injuring two persons.

As soon as the accident took place, crowds gathered and cashed in, picking up cashews by the dozen. Armed with bags, they began merrily gathering the cashews which had fallen on the road. They were soon chased away by the police.

The truck belonged to Reliable Cashews. The exact cause for the accident is not known, but sources said that the truck was moving at a high speed towards Baikampady from Nanthoor. It lost control and toppled near AJ Hospital.

The driver and conductor escaped with minor injuries.

A minor traffic jam ensued, not only because of the truck but also the crowd.

Kadri police came to the spot and bought the situation under control.
