Kundapur, Jun 16: In an incident which occurred at Siddapur in the taluk at around 7.30 pm on Monday June 15, youngsters from a particular community tried to attack the vehicle in which officials of commercial tax department were seated. The team of officials had tried to intercept a pick-up truck for inspecting whether goods loaded into it were backed by proper documents.

Tension prevailed at Siddapur for sometime after this incident.

A team of commercial tax officials were inspecting vehicles near Neralakatte village, when a pick-up truck that approached the point at high speed sped away even after it was signalled to stop. The officials then chased this vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle then directly drove the pick-up truck into the compound of a house in Siddapur. The officials who were right behind, stopped their vehicle outside the compound.

Several youth from a particular community arrived there immediately and showed inclination to attack the officials and their vehicle. When the officials, sensing trouble, were backtracking, some locals came to their rescue. When commercial tax officer, Raveendra Bangera, said that he would file police complaint, the attackers dispersed.

Bangera felt that this vehicle might have been belonging to some smugglers, going by the way it was driven away instead of showing the bills to officials. 'The fact that the guilty had formed a gang that was about to attack us gives indication that something is fishy. We are filing police complaint about obstruction of government officials from discharging duty,' he added.
