Illegal cattle traffickers flee - vehicle impounded

Puttur, Jun 16: A pick-up vehicle loaded with cattle was chased by a police team led by rural police inspector here, B S Ravi, when the vehicle was sighted at Salpaje in Balnad village in the taluk on Monday June 15.

The cattle thieves, sensing trouble, abandoned their vehicle in the courtyard of a house belonging to a local named Abdul Hameed, before jumping into the river by the side of the house and escaping. The policemen, who made inquiries locally came to know that the two persons who jumped into the river and fled were Shaffi and Siddique.

The vehicle has been impounded. A cow and two male calves found inside the vehicle were taken into possession. The cattle were found to have been bundled inside in inhuman way by tying their legs together.

It is gathered that the stolen cattle were being transported to Kasargod for being sold in a slaughterhouse there. A case was registered in rural police station here about the incident.
