10 arrested in Hong Kong for bomb-making plot

Hong Kong, Jun 16 (IANS): Hong Kong police have arrested 10 people who were allegedly plotting to make bombs ahead of this week's Legislative Council vote on a universal suffrage package, a media report said on Tuesday.

The suspects -- six men and four women -- aged between 21 and 58 were arrested on Monday night, police said.

Some of the suspects claimed they were members of a local radical group.

The police found maps marking locations in downtown Wan Chai and Admiralty.

"The group might have wanted to do something on those particular locations," a security official said.

The police seized explosives at one suspect's home, which were confirmed to be ingredients for triacetone triperoxide (TATP), a highly explosive substance that was used in 2005 London bombings.
