Six policemen killed in Afghan checkpoint attack


Kabul, June 16 (IANS): Six policemen and eight militants were killed in a security checkpoint attack in Afghanistan's Kunduz province, police said on Tuesday.

"Unidentified number of militants attacked security checkpoints in Sarak-e-Bala area of Chardara district at midnight, triggering a six- hour clash," a police official told Xinhua news agency.

"A pursuit operation was now launched against the fleeing rebels following the attack."
