Policeman shot dead by guerrillas in Kashmir


Srinagar, Jun 17 (IANS): A Jammu and Kashmir Police constable was shot and killed by separatist guerrillas in Anantnag district on Tuesday, a police official said.

"Militants fired at constable Arif Ahmad, the personal security guard of the local SHO, from close range in Bijbehara (Anantnag) town on Tuesday evening outside the police station. He later succumbed to injuries," a senior police officer told IANS here.

"The area has been surrounded and searches are going on to trace the militants," the officer added.
