French naval ships visit Visakhapatnam


Visakhapatnam, Jun 17 (IANS): Two French naval ships, a landing platform dock and a frigate, are here on a visit, an official statement said on Tuesday.

The Dixmude, a LPD and Aconit, a frigate arrived at Visakhapatnam, the headquarter of Eastern Naval Command on Tuesday and will be here till June 22.

Rear Admiral Antoine Beaussant, admiral-in-charge of the French maritime zone of the Indian Ocean, Captain Pierre de Briancon, commanding officer of FNS Dixmude and Captain Jean-Pierre Helluy, commanding officer of FNS Aconit called on the command's Chief of Staff, Vice Admiral Bimal Verma.

"During the visit, various operational and social interactions with Eastern Naval Command have been planned. These include amphibious demonstrations, sharing of expertise on Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR), exchange of non-combatant Evacuation procedures, mutual ship visits, industry exhibition and sports fixtures," the statement added.
