Udupi, Jun 17: Bank of Baroda's Innanje branch, Shankarpura, has filed a complaint in Kaup police station, alleging that a couple, which had bought a luxury car out of bank finance, had transferred the vehicle fraudulently to a third person without clearing the loan.

Rasmia Akbar, wife of Akbar Abdul Rahman, resident of 3-49, Al Mubarak Manzil, 9th cross, Sarkarigudde, in Subhasnagar, Shankarpura, reportedly borrowed from the said branch of Bank of Baroda a sum of Rs 7.20 lac for buying Peninsula Honda car on the guarantee of her husband on October 21, 2013. The couple did not pay back the loan except the installments due during the first year.

'The couple stopped repaying the loan thereafter under one pretext or the other. The duo also kept putting off the matter of providing permanent registration records of the car to the bank in spite of repeated requests. As at June 15, the liability in this loan account stands at Rs 6,62,500. When we checked the records with regional transport office, it transpired that the couple had made thorough changes in the records, prepared new documents, procured separate 'B' extract, and sold the car to a person named Raghavendra from Kundapur without the bank's consent,' the bank claimed.

On the basis of complaint filed by the manager of the branch, Shashidhar, Kaup police have registered a case under sections 406 and 420 of Indian Penal Code, and begun an investigation.
