Tiger kills Georgian man after escaping flooded zoo

Tbilisi, Jun 18 (IANS/EFE): An albino tiger which escaped from a zoo in Tbilisi during Sunday's floods killed one person on Wednesday in the Georgian capital, according to the interior ministry.

The tiger attacked four people lounging at a nearby pool in a residential area, killing one and injuring another.

Security forces launched an operation to hunt down the tiger, and Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri visited the scene of the attack.

Shortly after Gomelauri arrived, several shots were heard.

Police managed to hunt down the tiger, according to media reports, although this was not officially confirmed.

Floods in Georgia have claimed the lives of 17 people, according to the latest data provided by the official authorities, and also damaged the Tbilisi Zoo, where dozens of wild animals - bears, lions, tigers, and even crocodiles - escaped, though most have been tracked down.
