PM meets sugarcane farmers from UP

New Delhi, Jun 19 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday told a group of sugarcane farmers from Uttar Pradesh that his government is working with a vision of making the farmers and the villages self-reliant and prosperous.

Addressing a group of about 150 farmers from various districts of the state, Modi said the government's decision to provide soil health cards to each farmer in the country would help the farmers reduce input costs and improve productivity.

He said micro-irrigation will help the farmer produce more crop, per drop.

According to a Bharatiya Janata Party release, the farmers called on Modi at his residence this evening to thank him for the central government's decision to provide Rs.6,000 crore to sugarcane farmers and other "pro-farmer steps" in the sugar sector.

Modi told the farmers of the steps his government was taking to provide uninterrupted power to all villages.

He also explained the benefits of the financial inclusion and social security schemes launched by his government.
