Kundapur's Dr Nagesh Prabhu appointed Central Silk Board member-secretary

Bengaluru, Jun 19: Senior Central Government officer belonging to the Indian Forest Service (IFS), Dr H Nagesh Prabhu, has assumed charge as member-secretary of the Central Silk Board in Bengaluru on Friday.

Dr Prabhu, a 1984 batch IFS officer, hails from Chittoor village of Kundapur taluk in the coastal Udupi District.

He assumed charge as member-secretary of the Central Silk Board succeeding IAS officer Ishita Roy.

The Central Silk Board is part the Government of India’s Textiles Ministry.

The Central Silk Board has been assigned with the responsibility of overall development of sericulture and silk industry of the country besides advising the Government of India in matters related to the silk industry.

Various developmental programmes and inter-related supportive programmes as well as R&D schemes are being implemented by Central Silk Board throughout the country.

The Central Silk Board is also directly responsible for organizing sericultural research, training of sericulture personnel, basic seed production, reviewing the impact of imports and exports, standardization and quality control measures etc.

Dr Nagesh Prabhu had earlier served as the Joint Secretary in the Department of Health Research coming under the Union Ministry of Health andFamily Welfare.

He graduated from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, before joining the IFS.
