Mangaluru, Jun 19: World blood donor day with the theme “Thank you for saving my life” supposed to be held on June 14 was observed on June 18 at the Conference Hall of Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Kankanady in order to felicitate the regular Voluntary blood donors and blood donation camp organizers.

The programme began with an invocation. Dr Kirana Pailoor, Incharge Blood Bank Officer and Associate Professor of Dept of Pathology welcomed the gathering and spoke on the significance of the day. She mentioned that blood is very much essential as there is no substitute for human blood and donating blood is a noble gesture. Hence, blood donors should be thanked for donating blood. Rev. Fr. Vinod Mascarenhas, Director, Capuchin Krishika Seva Kendra, Dayalbagh Rural Development programme, Belthangady, who had donated blood around 75 times was the Chief Guest for the programme.

Fr Patrick Rodrigues, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions presided over the function and he inaugurated the “Blood donation Drive week” organised by the Student Council, FMMC in association with the Blood Bank. He felicitated the Chief Guest and in his presidential address, stressed on the importance of blood donation. He also mentioned that donating blood is the best gift that one can give others.

Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean FMMC felicitated about 14 regular voluntary blood donors. Other dignitaries such as Dr Sanjeev Rai, Chief of Medical Sciences,  Fr Ajith Menezes, Assistant Administrator, FMCI and Sr Aileen Mathias, Chief Nursing Officer were also present. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr Charu Khosla. The Inaugural function was followed by the ‘Blood Donation Drive Week’ from 18 to 24 June by the Student Council of Father Muller Medical College.
