Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy goes all out in promoting Tulu language

Mangaluru, Jun 20: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy held a press meet today June 20 at the Tulu Sahitya Academy office, MCC to present the summary of programmes conducted in the last one year and the programmes to be conducted in the year 2015-2016.

Speaking on the occasion Janaki M Brahmavar president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy said, “Since 2010 we have wanted to implement tulu language as the third subject in schools in the coastal area, but due to a few issues it could not happen. This year we are implementing the project, keeping Puttur as the center. We have already held a meeting with heads of schools and the academy has promised to solve the issue of tulu teachers. With this in mind, we have kept aside a certain amount of funds. In Puttur taluk 7 high schools having a total of 115 students, 76 students and 44 students in 8th, 9th and 10th standards respectively have requested for tulu text books. 

We have published 19 moral based works. Of these, the 18th one is 'Tulu Kelinja Kavya'. In the year 2014-15 a total of 10 people were given tulu research fellowship of Rs 50, 000 each. Research was done under the guidance of scholars. Work on documentary preparation was undertaken for 13 people who have achieved in the field of Tulu language, literature, art organization and research projects. The work of these documentaries is in progress. In order to enter tulu in wikipedia, workshops were conducted in different colleges. Uploading of tulu language is in progress. Tulu lipi classes were conducted in Karkala, Bantwal and Mangaluru. Approximately 50 students took part in every class, Tulu minadana, chavadi programmes and workshops. Tulu programmes were conducted in other districts and states in 5 places. Tulunadu photography competition was conducted and a total of 800 photos of tulu nature and culture photos were collected. 

Work on Tulu Bhavana which is being built at the cost of Rs 4.80 crore is going on in full swing. Work on the ground floor is complete and the office will be shifted in the next few days as the current office is a rented office.

Chandrahasa Rai B, registrar Karnataka Sahitya Academy, Jayasheela Maroli, Roopa Kala Alva, professor Vedavathi, D M Kulal and Mohan Koppala were present at the meet.
