Qatar: Mangalore Cricket Club holds 23rd annual General Meeting

Qatar, Jun 23: The 23rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Mangalore Cricket Club was held on Friday June 19 at 7.00 pm at the Skills Development Center. The AGM was attended by around 150 members.

 


























The objective of the AGM is to update the members on the activities of the club and also to provide an evening of camaraderie, fun, games and entertainment. 

The evening began with a prayer led by Della Rego, membership secretary. President Norbert Corda then invited his executive committee members on the stage. Joint secretary Raj Maxim Rodrigues read the annual report for the year 2014-2015 followed by the financial report by treasurer Ronald Saldanha. President Norbert Corda then addressed the gathering and gave his brief message on the activities, forthcoming events and the changes in the excom members. He then thanked everyone for all their help and support extended in the past year and encouraged all members to take a more active part in the activities hosted by the club and requested for new members to be introduced to the club to build membership. 

The floor was then thrown open for suggestions and/or discussion among the members.  The stage program was emceed by Alphonse D’silva who did a superb job adding humor in his maiden emceeing venture.   

The official program was followed by a farewell to a long time member Wilfred and Sofie Crasto’s family who will be leaving Qatar soon for their long service to the club and community. 

Riana Pinto, cultural secretary spoke about Wilfred Crasto’s family and gave a brief about their service to the club during the ladies throwball tournament in the past 13 years and Sofie Crasto had served the club in the past as joint sports secretary. A small tribute of love was presented to them by president Norbert Corda. Wilfy and Sofie Crasto also thanked the club for giving them many opportunities and to their children a platform to involve themselves in many activities.

A short cultural program was also presented along with some spot games to entertain the crowd. Young girls Vanessa Fernandes, Nikita and Navita Rego danced to the tune of medley of hit hindi songs and spellbound the audience with their performance. A duet song 'Sobhit hya sounsaranth tun eklench go mujhe' was beautifully presented by the singing couple Harry Correa, (1st place runner up of GVOM 4) and his wife Karen Correa (2nd runner up in Qatar semifinals of GVOM 4). A solo song 'Francis Roy' was presented by Alphonse D’silva (1st Runner up in Qatar semifinals GVOM 4) who rocked the stage with his performance.

Spot games with questions related to the club made the audience put on their thinking caps. Spot games were won by George, Janet D’souza and Vivian D’souza. Vote of thanks was proposed by Riana Pinto. Snacks were provided for all while members enjoyed an exchange of talk and sharing fun talk with co-members and meeting new members.
