Mangaluru, Jun 23: “Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has insulted Blessed Mother Teresa by not placing the name board after her for Falnir road from the past 12 years”, alleged secretary of CPI (M), Sunil Kumar Bajal, in a protest held at Milagres Church on Monday, June 22.

Addressing the protesters, Sunil Kumar Bajal said, “It’s been 12 years since the Falnir road has been named Mother Theresa Road. The MCC has not mentioned the name of the road as Mother Theresa Road yet to the public so we have come forward to protest today. Mother Theresa was born in foreign country but she served the poor and sick people of our country as a mother. We cannot forget her service to society. Many leaders names are given to a number of roads in Mangaluru and MCC has insulted Mother Theresa by not availing time to place the board for the road from the past 12 years”.

“Another important point is that road stretch from Milagres church to Kankanady has three corporators of Christian community and yet they are silent on the issue. The 40th court ward development committee demands that MCC should immediately place the name board for the road and give due respect to Mother Theresa”, he stressed.

Addressing the protesters, parish priest, Fr Valerian D'souza, said, “MCC has failed in its duties. It is a government order to name the road after Blessed Mother Teresa. The name board for the road has to be placed immediately and thus respect Blessed Mother Teresa”.

Fr Francis D'Almeida, the campus minister of St Aloysius College, Yogish Jeppinamugeru, Vasudev Uchil and others were present.

CPM is always pro poor party and always advocates for good cause unlike provoking people for communal riots and social disturbances for which other communal parties are famous. Bharat Ranta mother Therasa sacrificed her whole life for uplifting the poor people and their health why administrative authority now making issue for naming the falnir road in her name.

    Dear Readers,

Now there is no confusion / dispute to name the road after whether it is 'MOTHER TERESA ROAD' or 'FALNIR ROAD'.

It can be named after 'NAGESH NAYAK ROAD'. What do you say?

A statement has been made that Mother Theresa was born in Europe. However she WAS an Indian at Heart. She served served the poor and the needy all over India and particularity now..... she has a Home for The Underprivileged IN OUR cITY. It is strange that orders passed twelve years ago have yet to be implemented. Hope the protest meeting serves the purpose of drawing the attention of the authorities and that Falnir road will immediately be termed MOTHER TERESA ROAD.

Kudos to the organizers of THE PROTEST MEET.

I recall that the Hampankatta-Kankanady Road, popularly known as Falnir Road, had been named after Mother Teresa and the name had been mis-spelt as 'Theresa' (with 'h' in it). Since then Mother Teresa was d 'Blessed' and now "Saint"
However, following the protests, if new sign-posts are erected to mark the name, it is appropriate to retain 'Mother Teresa' and not St. Teresa as there are other St. Theresas. It should be "Mother Teresa Road" because it is her brand name and evocative of her life of service to the least of mankind.

I do not think Mother Theresa is desperate to have a road in Mangalore named after her. Considering the state of our roads in the city I do not think it will be a great credit to anyone.

By serving God and man she will be honored in heaven. She did not do anything for publicity.By naming one road she will not be glorified.please don't be involved in the cheap politics.Christianity is not protected by the people but by the peaceful holy spirit and the powerful name of Jesus Christ. So dear religious people don't be involved. If Christians are beaten or church is vandalized please come forward but in the spirit of Christ.
