Akhilesh orders special facilities for prisoners on 'Roza'


Lucknow, Jun 24 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has ordered special facilities for Muslim prisoners observing 'Roza' (fast) during the holy month of Ramadan, a state government spokesman said on Tuesday.

Following his instructions, under humantarian and health grounds, all such prisoners would be provided material for 'Sehri' and 'Aftari' (pre- and post-fast meals).

Prisoners observing 'Roza' would now get a glass lemonade made of one lemon, 30 gm sugar and 50 grams of ice, 250 gm sweet lime and two biscuits during 'aftari'. In the same way, prisoners observing roza would be provided 50 gm bread, 100 gm curd and 15 gm sugar for 'sehri', officials said.

In winters, the aftari would include one cup tea, 250 gm sweet lime, and two biscuits and for sehri. 50 gm paav roti, 200 ml milk and 15 gm sugar will be provided.

The spokesman further informed that the state prisons have implemented these special facilities from June 18 and all fasting prisoners, who skip the morning breakfast and lunch along with the evening tea, will be complimented with the sehri and aftar material of the same cost.
