Puttur: Religious, social leader, Usman Haji Mittoor (65), passes away

Puttur, Jun 24: Usman Haji Mittoor, a resident of Manjalpadpu in the town, passed away at his residence late night on Monday June 22. He was 65.

Usman Haji was an entrepreneur, veteran religious and social leader and president of Markazul Huda Women's College at Kumbra here. Haji, who was the founder president of this college which started functioning in 2001, continued to be in that post since the last 15 years. He was also active in several other institutions and organizations.

He had functioned as member of Dakshina Kannada district Wakf Advisory Committee, member of Samastha Kerala Sunni Vidhyabhayasa Board's central committee, state vice president of Karnataka Muslim Jamaat Council, treasurer of Dakshina Kannada district unit of Sunni Management Association, vice president of Muhimmat group of educational institutions at Kumble, treasurer of Islamic Cultural Centre based at Pumpwell in Mangaluru, taluk vice president of Muslim United Jamaat, vice president of Bantwal taluk Muslim United Jamaat, vice president of Seerat Committee here, vice president of Bettampady government first grade college, and president of managing committee of Masjidul Arafa Masjid ar Panaje Arlapadavu.

Usman Haji was the founder president of Puttur City Rotary Club. He had served Mittoor Sirajul Huda Jumma Masjid in the capacity of president for several years. He also was the president of Salmara Mountan View school for a decade.

He was the recipient of 'Paul Harris Fellow' award of Rotary International, annual Beary award of Bengaluru Bearys' Welfare Association, 'haribinger of education' award from Markazul Huda UAE, 'H D Deve Gowda Award' handed over during Kannada Rajyotsava, and 'Gadinada Dhwani' award. He was felicitated by Dakshina Kannada District Legal Services Authority.

A large number of dignitaries including health minister, U T Khadar, MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, zilla panchayat member, M S Muhammed, municipality immediate past president, Jagadish Nellikatte, Yenepoya Muhammed Kuinhi, Ullal Qazi, Koorat Tangal, Puttur Taluk Muslim United Jamaat president, Haji S Ibrahim Kammady, Bantwal Taluk United Jamaat president, Abbas Haji Sajipa, SSF state president, Shaffi Saadi Nandavara, Karandoor Sunni Markaz manager, C Muhammed Faizhi, Abdurrashid Zaini Kamil Sakafi, Dakshina Kannada district Wakf Board Advisory Committee president, S M Rashid Haji, and Hanif Haji Goltamajalu paid their last respects to the departed soul.

Minister, U T Khadar, expressing deep grief at the untimely demise of Usman Haji, hailed him for his rich contribution to religious, educational, and social fields. He said that chief minister, Siddaramiah, too has grieved his death.

Usman Haji has left behind wife, four sons, and four daughters. The funeral was conducted at Mittor Sirajul Huda Jumma Masjid premises on Tuesday evening.
