New Delhi, June 24 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday extended his greetings to the government and the people of Qatar on the occasion its emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's accession, to be celebrated on June 25.

"On behalf of the Government, the people of India and myself, I extend warm greetings and congratulations to your Highness and the people of the State of Qatar on the occasion of the Anniversary of Your Highness's Accession," said the president in a message.

"Our historical and friendly relations are deeply rooted in millennia-old cultural, religious and economic ties, characterized by extensive people-to-people contacts. I am confident that our multifaceted engagement in different fields would further deepen and strengthen our ongoing cooperation for the mutual benefit of both our peoples," the president said.

"I take this opportunity to convey to your Highness my best wishes for your personal good health and well-being and for the progress and prosperity of the friendly people of the State of Qatar," Mukherjee added.
