Narrow escape for Nitin Gadkari

Haldia (West Bengal) June 24 (IANS): Union minister Nitin Gadkari had a narrow escape on Wednesday when a red carpet laid out for him flew up and got entangled in the rotor blades of his helicopter while it was landing in West Bengal's East Midnapore district.

On a visit to the Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) of Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) here, the red carpet rolled out for the minister for transport, roadways and shipping was blown up by the chopper's downdraft and got entangled in its rotor blades.

The chopper, however, landed safely and Gadkari and rest of the passengers escaped unhurt.

"All passengers on board the helicopter to Haldia are safe. Really appreciate the concerns and well-wishes expressed," Gadkari tweeted.
