Qatar, Jun 24: The 21st Gulf Incon-Metabo Floodlit Cricket Tournament got off to a flying start when hosts Metabo defeated Alfardan by 16 runs.
The tournament was inaugurated by Srinivasan Vaidyanathan, general manager, Gulf Incon in the presence of Sajjad Ahmed Khan, senior sales & marketing manager– tools & equipment division along with members of the Qatar Veterans’ Cricket League.
As per earlier years, a free cricketing quiz has been organized with exciting prizes. To register, interested people can log on to www.qvcleague.org.
After winning the toss, Metabo elected to bat and scored 98 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Ajay was outstanding scoring 17 runs off 9 deliveries with 2 sixes.
Mehraj, Zahid, Anand, Shahbaz, Elangesh, Tanveer, Akram and Ghazali took a wicket each.
In reply, Alfardan could manage only 82 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Ghazali scored 23 runs in 16 balls with 2 sixes and a boundary. Atiq took 2 wickets while Alphonso, Shabbir, Haneef, Arshad, Hussain and Abhijit took a wicket each.
Abhijit of Metabo was declared man of the match.
In the other match, Hanan trounced Tulu Koota by 93 runs. After winning the toss, Hanan elected to bat and amassed 142 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Zameer was outstanding who scored 33 runs off 14 deliveries with 4 sixes. Aswar chipped in with 29 runs off 9 balls with 4 sixes and a boundary. Ikram scored 10 runs. Khalifa took 2 wickets while Arshad, Rasheed, Karthick and Sattar took a wicket each.
In reply, Tulu Koota were bundled out for 49 runs in 8 overs. Aswar took a hat-rick while Nassir also claimed 3 wickets. Hisham took 2 wickets while Imran, Rislat and Zameer took a wicket each.
In this match, Aswar of Hanan was declared man of the match.
The finals of this prestigious tournament are scheduled on Monday, July 6, 2015. All matches are played at the Old Ideal Indian School grounds starting after 9.00 pm.
