Jun 25, (Emirates 247): Watching TV while driving is a strict no-no for drivers. But not if you are watching this giant Samsung TV, fitted on trucks.
Samsung has developed a new solution called the Safety Truck that would enable motorists to safely overtake the truck especially when driving on a single lane motorway or a highway.
The Safety Truck consists of a wireless camera attached to the front of the truck, which is connected to a video wall made out of four exterior monitors located on the back of the truck. The monitors give drivers behind the truck a view of what is going on ahead, even in the dark of night.
According to Samsung another advantage of the Safety Truck is that it may reduce the risk of accidents caused by sudden braking or animals crossing the road.
With most highways in the UAE being multiple lanes with a divider, motorists may not find the feature all that useful here, but not if you have been a driver in India, Pakistan or any of the developing countries with single lane highways.
The new Samsung technology could be of immense use especially for motorists in India which is said to be among the top countries in terms of road accidents with one of the highest rates.
Samsung says it has already developed the prototype by conducting tests on various models but is yet to commercially roll out the solution. “We have been able to confirm that the technology works and that this idea can definitely save the lives of many people,” it said in a blog post.
Samsung also said that it is teaming up with safe driving NGOs and other government organisations to perform corresponding tests in order to comply with the existing national protocols and obtain the necessary permits and approvals.
