House collapses in Ghaziabad, many injured

Ghaziabad, June 25 (IANS): A three-storeyed house in Ghaziabad, which was being lifted with hydraulic jacks, collapsed on Thursday injuring at least a dozen people, police said.

The incident took place in Uttaranchal residential colony in Loni area.

House owner Ashok engaged a contractor to lift the building to the level of the road. When labourers started lifting the house with the help of hydraulic jacks, the building tilted and collapsed, injuring the labourers, the contractor and the house owner.

Police said the house was built with poor quality material.

"With the help of locals, police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team rescued the injured people and took them to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital in Delhi. Some of them had fractures but all are out of danger," said Inspector Virendra Yadav of the Loni Border police station.
