Mangaluru, Jun 26: Police personnel of Kavoor station in the city arrested a person and his alleged paramour for confining the wife of the former in a room of a rented house, and inflicting on her mental and physical torture. The arrests were made on Thursday June 25.

Ganapat (32), who hails from Rajasthan, residing in a rented house at Derebail Lohit Nagar in the city, and his girlfriend, Sumitra, stand arrested in this case.

It is learnt that Ganapat had married a lady named Swapna nine years ago, when he was living in Rajasthan. Later, he left her at his native place, and came to the city where he started to operate a shop dealing in stationery items, mobile phone spare parts etc at Kuntikan Junction here. Later, he began living with a lady named Sumitra at his residence.

About three months back, Swapna came to the city. It is said that both Ganapat and Sumitra quarreled with her, and confined her to a dark room inside the rented house for the last three months. She was not even being provided with proper food, and was subjected to physical and mental torture, it is alleged.

A police team led by Kavoor police sub-inspector, Umesh Kumar, raided the spot and took the accused into custody.

When there are so many opportunities here why do ppl from here migrate elsewhere? For labor (skilled and unskilled) work the present wages in Mangaluru may not be much less than in the Gulf, but still most prefer to go and slog there leaving their families behind, which is the reason why there is tremendous demand here.

Such type of incidents are common in Metros where poor migrants come to the city leaving their families behind! During course of time, they live with their paramours with the wife behind not knowing anything unless/otherwise specifically informed, these guys do not visit their native places for years as all their carnal needs are met in the city with younger females!! Jai Hind!!

At the ritual of saat phere, they had asked God to give them wisdom and maturity, so that they may live as man and wife, in love, friendship and mutual trust. But see, what he had done to Swapna:

Sweet dreams of my life are over
Story of my marriage is over
Song of my life is over
    Eyes are filled with tears
    My smiling days are over
And painful days have taken over.
