NHRC notice to Rajasthan over woman's rape by policeman


New Delhi, June 26 (IANS): The NHRC has issued notice to the Rajasthan government over the alleged rape of a woman by a police constable and his associate next to a police station, a statement said on Friday.

Taking suo motu cognizance of a media report that the victim was raped at an outpost attached to Mualasar police station in the state's Nagaur district on Monday, the commission has issued notice to the Nagaur district magistrate and superintendent of police, calling for report in the matter within two weeks.

"The contents of the media report, if true, amount to blatant violation of human rights of the woman by a public servant," said the the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Citing reports, it said the police constable was arrested while his accomplice is still at large.
