Mangaluru: CCB police seize illegal pistol, bullets, arrest murder-accused

Mangaluru, Jun 27: City crime branch (CCB) led by inspector Valentine D'Souza on Saturday June 27 arrested a murder-accused who was illegally carrying a pistol and live bullets.

The accused Kulshekar resident Dayananda alias Raja (34), was arrested near Kulshekar Kaikamba post office.

Based on credible information that some crime was being planned near Kulshekar Kaikamba post office, the CCB police raided the spot and arrested Raja.

The police recovered a pistol, five live bullets and a mobile phone from the accused.

There were two other persons with Raja, but they managed to escape. It is suspected that they were planning to commit some crime and were hence wandering around in the area armed with the pistol.

Raja is an accused in the murder of bus driver Prasanna Poojary, who was brutally assaulted by a group of seven in 2013 at Paldane, Neermarga under Mangaluru rural police station limits.

The seized pistol is valued at approximately Rs 1 lac.

The accused as well as the seized items have been handed over to Kadri police for further investigation.

The arrest operation was conducted on the directions of police commissioner S Murugan, under the guidance of DCP (law and order) K M Shantaraju, DCP (crime) Vishnuwardhan, and led by CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza.
