Mangaluru: Man dies at Santosh Nagar - Viral video casts suspicions

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 30: While it has been claimed that the death of man in Santosh Nagar on Friday last was caused by suicide, now suspicions have arisen about the cause of his death. It was said that Vasudeva Bhat (53), resident of Vamanjoor Paitakal Santosh Nagar, had ended his life by hanging himself in his house. However, a video of him being beaten up, which went viral after his death, has raised suspicions about the suicide theory.

Bhat used to come home drunk and pick up fight with family members and others regularly. Reportedly, he had fought with his neighbours on Friday too. Within sometime thereafter, Vasudeva Bhat reportedly went inside a room in his house, bolted the door from inside, and hanged himself, as per police version.

Bhat's wife works as a school teacher. She found about her husband''s suicide on returning home after duty hours on Friday. After she filed a complaint with the rural police station in the city, a case of suicide was registered.

Several locals have expressed suspicion about the suicide angle being given to the man''s death. It is said that video footage showing Bhat being beaten up after tying him up to a tree, had been making rounds in WhatsApp on Monday. Some claim that the locals had tethered him to a tree, and chilly powder was sprayed on his face, before thrashing him.

As many expressed suspicion about the death of Vasudeva Bhat, police visited Santosh Nagar on Monday evening, and questioned a few neighbours. ''During the questioning, some names have cropped up. As such, three persons have been summoned to be present in the station on Tuesday for interrogation,'' said rural police sub-inspector, Maddi.

    Dear readers,

Use the same video as a evidence and start the investigation.

This is clear domestic matter. No authority to abuse a person in his own capacity.

How these people like to torture a human being like this when they are very-much interested in protecting cows and animals?
Why human being has no value and right to leave in this society?
Why our society belongs to only moral Goondas and Animals only?
Where then ordinary men will go? outside planet?
    * police good in registering as suicide case and close the matter?
    * when our people will get justice?
    * Is someone has to die and show that he is torturing by these goondas?
    * How much he must have suffered and gone through miseries, she the face looks after they sprayed Chilly powder on his face and Eyes?
    * Will police give same treatment to these Moral or Immoral Goondas?
    * They should have respected that mans age at-least, equivalent to that Goondas fathers age.

How sad to be beaten up and die from known People, but not from sickness.Of course it is also a sickness when too much is.But because he is from a certain Family, and they dont drink,is a wrong saying.First af all one should think when he is voll, certainly not in a state to hang himself but want to sleep.thatswhy their saying is wrong .who knows they must have beaten him up and when gone wrong must have hanged him.Thats my theory.vedio or Foto must have been made during their Action.May his Soul rest in peace.when he was beaten up really ,they should also must recieve th esame Treatment, iclusive hanging.

    sad!
This is what happens when self- styled illiterate immoral rowdies start taking law & order into their own hands.

If this man used to drink then they should have got him admitted to a Rehab De-addiction center.

I am upset to see the way he was treated even though Bhat was a drunkard or a abuser.... no man has the right to physically assault another person.

Read my comment again, i have mentioned there is no deference between IS and this killer. I don't know how you get hurt on this statement or you may part of this group.

Height of the inhumanity. Hard to believe that this was happened in most educated and smart district of India. It remembers remote village of Bihar where this kind of acts happens regularly. See the age of the dead person and other man who is tying him. He looks like his father's age. Are we forgetting humanity in the name of modern culture and developments ?

    Vasudeva Bhat? Bhat?
    Nowadays Shetty's, Alva's, Poojary's and all even some Pinto's, Machado's, D'mellos do not drink.
All 'religious surnames' only in drink list!
    Bhandarkar -you ask aaa?
    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......
Bhat Maam here looks like a 'caged tiger' in the photos- growling and all that! Poor Bhatin Mai might have had a tough time controlling him! Drinking sometimes gives 'extra natural powers'!
    Ask Jossey! He knows best!!!!
    R.I.P. Bhat Maam!

Dear Late Vasudeva Bhattre…..we don’t know the reason for your death….but being a Brahmin, by virtue of your culture….drinking is also not allowed in your cast…. Brahmin is not a Brahmin by birth….but one should follow….Aachaar, Vichaar and Karma too to become a Brahmin!!! If indeed you have been murdered by your own people better you beg with eternal GOD to forgive them because you too were wrong fundamentally!!!!

What do you mean? ok i agree drinking not allowed but for that beaten up this elder person and throwing chilly power to his face, and agony is allowed? am not arguing here about "Aachaar, Vichaar and Karma" but the facts we should utilize our humanity rather than religion.

What a disgraceful thought from Sachidanand Shettre.

Nobody has the rights to impose any religious right on any1... May be it Brahman , Muslim or Christian..... None of the Prophets, or Jesus or Budha , Rama forced any1 to accept the ideology of theirs....

Tomorrow if your son drinks , will you beat him and kill him like this ????

Its not Vasudeva Bhat needs to beg forgiveness with GOD, but those who mercilessly beat him....

Eating,Drinking,Fasting or abstaining from food or from marriage! nothing is compulsory in this world.
Everything is man made for his own benefit, if Brahmin cannot drink, shetty,Souza,Pinto,Basheer,Shariff,Abdulla etc can drink?
    All are human-beings,
Love thy neighbor as you love yourself.
    **That should be our aachaar,vichaar**
