Danish woman's rape: Victim identifies three accused


New Delhi, July 1 (IANS): A Danish woman, allegedly gangraped by six vagabonds last year, appeared before a court here on Wednesday and identified three of the accused in the case.

According to court sources, the victim identified the three men and told the court that she was sexually assaulted by them.

However, about the rest of the three accused, she told the court that she was unsure about them but it seemed they were also involved in the crime.

The woman, who was testifying as prosecution witness in the case, appeared before the court in pursuance of summons issued on her.

The victim's statement was recorded during in-camera proceedings presided over by additional sessions judge Kaveri Baweja.

During the hearing, the judge asked the victim whether she could understand English, observing that she was from Denmark.

The 52-year-old victim replied that she was well-conversant with the English language and could speak and understand English.

The sources said the victim recounted her rape event similar to what she told the police while lodging her initial complaint.

The recording of the statement of other witnesses would be continued on Thursday.

Arjun, Raju alias Chhakka, Mohammad Raja, Mahendra alias Ganja, Raju alias Bajji and Shyam Lal have been chargesheeted for robbing and raping the Danish woman at knife-point near New Delhi Railway Station in January, 2014.

The incident occurred after she sought directions to her hotel in central Delhi's Paharganj area.

Two minor are also involved in the alleged offence and they are facing an inquiry before the Juvenile Justice Board here.

Police had said all the accused were vagabonds, who took the woman to an isolated spot near the Divisional Railway Officers' Club near the railway station, took away her belongings and then raped her.
