Four farmers commit suicide, total deaths reach 20 in 10 days

Bengaluru, Jul 3 (DHNS): The spate of farmer suicides continues in the State. Mallikarjuna Eranna Vagge, a 22-year-old farmer, hanged himself at his farm at Aliyambar village in Bidar taluk on Wednesday.

The incident came to light on Thursday morning when fellow farmers came to the field. It is said Vagge had availed a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh from a bank for farming on land belonging to his disabled father.

It is said that a quarrel ensued in the house over repaying the loan after the bank issued a notice. This may have led the farmer to take the drastic step, village residents said. Tahsildar Lakshman Rao and senior police officers visited the spot.

Lokesh, 50, a debt-ridden farmer, consumed poison and fell to his death in the Hemavathi canal passing through his field at Moodanahalli village in K R Pet taluk of Mandya district on Thursday.

He had taken loans amounting to Rs two lakh from banks for growing sugar cane. Lokesh had supplied the sugar cane grown on his farm to a local private sugar factory, but had not been paid the dues. This may have driven him to suicide, it is said.

A 45-year-old farmer from Maraduru Moodalakoppalu village in Periyapatna taluk of Mysuru district died at a hospital where he was admitted after he consumed poison, on Wednesday night.

Karigowda had taken a loan of Rs three lakh for his daughter’s marriage from a moneylender. He had consumed poison on June 26, as he was under pressure to repay the money.

He was admitted to K R Hospital in Mysuru for treatment and died as the treatment failed.

Rajegowda, 57, hanged himself to death at his residence at Kirangur village in Hunsur taluk of Mysuru district on Wednesday night.

He had cultivated tobacco, plantain and ginger crops on land belonging to his brother and father.

He had taken loans from private persons for his venture. Rajegowda was upset over the fact that the yield from his farm did not fetch a good price in the market. This may have led him to commit suicide, it is said.

The total number of farmer suicides has reached 20 in the past 10 days.

Instead of giving everything for free to SC/ST consider doing something good for the hard working farmers. Farmer grows rice working day and night in the fields. These SC/ST get it for free without any hard work. Is that fair?

If there are any politicians who did farming at his young age will get the pain of farmers & they can do something for this Community. Others all bulls#it & those doesn't know ABCD of farming sit in the TV studio's & lecture on farming / farmers. Simply disgusting , pathetic. Hope there will be revolution on Farming to stop this Suicides. Cut all unnecessary / illegal social welfare schemes like different useless Bhagyas & different Bhagyas for different communities & offer the same to the farming community & their children. People has to rise to the occasion & force the Government to stop spending on Bhagyas & create a scheme for Farmers & their families. If there are no farmers, from where will you bring rice for the Anna Bhagya????

Has any one forced the farmer to take loan. if a farmer knows he can not pay back the loan why he should take loan. I do not blame any one except the Farmer. ie: you should stretch your feet only upto the mat and not beyond the mat.

Corrupt / fake Secular Media ruining India. If this was the case under BJP rule, national & fake Secular media houses loved these farmers like anything with national headlines. But who cares for these poor farmers since they die under a loot party government where media gets it's due share regularly & the CM sleeps during discussion in the Assembly. Hope GOD punishes the Government & the Media houses for Committing SINS. TOI is busy targetting Maharashtra CM / Lalit Modi. Say goodbye to Corrupt & false Media & say thanks to Social Media.

Really sad to hear the death of farmers in India. We never expected this under congi rule in Karnataka. cz the type of accusations only against Modi/BJP by the Bhagya bhakths. In BJP Ruled states when one farmer commit suicide in this forum all dongi/bhagya bhakths write their lengthy bashans. Why hiding now to display the Good work of your Party for the farmers. Only Love for farmers in BJP Ruled states. If u call our PM Modi as feku then u guys are 100% more fekus.

Please note that a son committed suicide after quarreling with father. He had taken loan from bank to grow sugar cane but the private firm has not done the payment.
So penalize the sugar cane factory

Second incidence he had taken loan for marriage. If there is no money why to take loan for marriage. So its his fault.

No where karnataka Government is to be blamed.

However few Bjpians are trying to make issue out of it then let PM MODI resign as he is the prime minister of India.
    he is responsible for this.

Very sad to hear the continues death of the farmers.

The reason behind the deaths is being cited as unable to pay back the loans due to bad crop.

But, sometime the reason could be different. Has anyone verified the funds received from banks are judicially used or misused, as some farmers are habitually drunkard and the funds are not fully used for the purpose meant for.

In that case, we can not blame anybody but his own destiny.

    Shenoy Mam
Firstly the local MP Pratap Simha should resign.
then the PM Modi should resign. As they r not doing anything.

I know it is wrong msg but people like you and fellow Bjpians mind set.

These farmers committed suicide on different issues.. daughter marriage and quarrel with father for not getting fund on time from private sugar factory.

Just imagine is government responsible for these things. Is a nursery or kindergarten.

I am really do not know what to say? Poor farmers are loosing their life's and very few are sympathizing. Most of are busy with their own things - how to survive is the question of every citizen ? Is it right or not ?.

It is true that no future for agriculturist's. We are not paying him right price - at least cost - for him. If this is continues - A day will come all farmers stop cultivating / growing food for us. May be Then only the importance of Agriculture / these farmers will come to our mind. Now, we pay money - we will get enough food. How long this is going to continue - GOD only knows.

Most of the deaths are due to the poor farmers not being able to repay the loans ..... It is sad that in a Country like India poverty drives poor farmers to commit suicide.

It is time that The Government decides to have A VERY HIGH LEVEL COMMITTEE to make a deep study of the prevailing situation and evolves ways and means to solve the gnawing situation.

I join several others in sympathizing the poor families of the suicidal victims.
