Puttur, Jul 5: An order sent by the district administration to Kukke Subramanya temple led to protests and the administration has sent a new communication to the temple to stick to the practice as before.

The issue was regarding the loud speaker volume during the transmission of Suprabhata prayers in the morning.

Former Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Harikrishna Punaroor had complained to the district administration that loud speaker at the temple was disturbing the people in the vicinity and added to the sound pollution in the area. Accordingly the administration sent an order to the temple to bring down the volume during the Suprabhata transmission.

But the issue of this order was taken seriously by the devotees and some organizations. On Friday people with the backing of some Hindu organizations protested in Subramanya. They said that if the order was not taken back, a district-wide protest would be held.

The district administration realised that the issue would turn into a bigger problem involving religious sentiments and sent a communication to the temple saying that they can continue with the same amount of volume in the loud speakers during the transmission of prayers in the morning.

The temple administration has confirmed these developments through a press statement.
