Kundapur, Jul 6: A sexual harassment case has been booked against the village assistant from the revenue department at Gangolli near here on Monday July 6.

Umesh Kumar (38) is the person charged with the offence. A woman has complained to the Gangolli police that Umesh Kumar was sexually harassing her.

As per the details, the accused has been harassing women and girls who came to the revenue department.

Last week, a woman who had come to the village accountant’s office for some work related to ration card and caste certificate was allegedly harassed by the same person. As the village accountant was not available at the time, the accused offered to help her with the work and allegedly misbehaved and used indecent words. He also asked her to come again later in the afternoon when nobody would be around and showed her some obscene clips in his mobile phone. He asked her number and said he would visit her house.

The woman at first hesitated to file complaint against the accused fearing consequences, but managed to tell her ordeal to her family and with their help and public support, she decided to lodge a complaint in Gangolli police station on Monday July 6.

Reshma Kharvi, the gram panchayat president told reporters that the accused has been harassing women from a long time, but nobody dared to complain as it was a matter of dignity. But when the behaviour of the accused crossed all limits, everyone came together to complain.

The locals also claimed that the accused usually harassed widows and single women, and demanded stern action against him.

Umesh Kumar is married and has two children, but does not live with his wife due to marital problems. Sub-inspector B Subbanna said that it was a grave offence and he would take action immediately.

Around eighty persons including Reshna Kharvi, Edward Cardin, Mujaheed, Rosy Fernandes and others were present at the police station while the complaint was being lodged. They demanded immediate action in the case.

Look at the beauty of his face and colour. He looks worse than the unfortunates working in the sunlight though out the year. Smash him with torn old slippers. Mr. Inspector, you have an opportunity to show your sincerity towards the law of the country and Gangolli community. Hand him to the public who suffered from him. Gungolli people are strong enough to handle him. Bugger cannot manage his own married life, how dare to stay into others. Such nasty fellow should not be born at all!

Open misuse of law , just a verbal statement by a woman is enough to trap a man. Now a days men expected to be of beta , bow down and surrender to women , if anyone behaves strongly as a alpha man , this can be booked as harassment. Its as if men r dictated by women , how to behave !. And surprisingly when such complaints r filed , lots of women come forward by making possible ' bogus' complaints. The man has to given fair chance to file response and enquiry has to be conducted , whether he too was harassed by women and girls. May the Justice Prevail . ..

Good to note that people from different religions have come together to fight against the revenue employee. If the people are united, as in this case, the justice will be given instantly. Sub Inspector B Subbanna has agreed to take immediate action.
