Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann to host week-long Konkani Filmotsav from Jul 10

Mangaluru, Jul 7: Mandd Sobhann in association with Tiatr Academy of Goa will be organizing 'Konkani Filmotsav' from July 10 to July 16 at Bharath Big Cinemas.

This was announced by Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, at a press meet here on Tuesday July 7.

"During this festival seven Konkani films will be screened each day. The festival will be inaugurated on the first day of the screening by Prince Jacob, president of the Tiatr Academy of Goa, an eminent theatre artiste and Konakani movie star. Roy Castelino, president of of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will be the chief guest," Ozario said.

"Many Konkani movies are produced and released in Goa but they are not screened in Mangaluru, except the ones produced in Karnataka, so the general impression is that there are hardly any movies in Konkani. In an attempt to clear this wrong perception and also to promote Konkani cinema, this film festival is being organized," he added.


During the Filmotsav, seven Konkani movies will be screened, and they are:

Friday, July 10 - 6:30pm - MMS
Saturday July 11 - 6:30pm - ' Home Sweet Home'
Sunday, July 12 - 3:30pm- ' Mortoo'
Monday, July 13 - 6:30pm - 'Digant'
Tuesday, July 14 - 6:30pm - 'Po'Ito'ddcho Monis
Wednesday, July 15 - 6:30pm - 'Baga Beach'
Thursday, July 16 - 6:30pm- 'Uzwad'


Louis Pinto, Mandd Sobhann president, Stany Alvares, co-ordinator, Arun Raj Rodrigues, PRO, Joy Fernandes (Goa), executive committee member were present.

    A few words here and there, and little bit of accent, is the only difference between the Konkani language spoken by Mangloreans and Goans. If there is a will to attend the cultural events one can definitely understand the language.But instead of trying it there are many to criticize..manglurchem ani goinchem...as suggested by Yo YO there should have been mangalorean production also should have been screened...

    This is great news. Do also show Nachom-ia kumpasar, movie based on the great singer Lornas life.It is one of the best movies done by Goan cinema.

    Hopefully Mangalore comes out with its movie on the life of its biggest music artist the great Wilfy Rebimbus.

    As far as I have heard Mangaloreans find it a little tough to understand Goenche Konkani. It would be best if the movie had subtitles in English.

    All Konkans do watch and support your mother tongue. Let Konkani Flourish.
