Mangaluru, Jul 9: KMC hospital, Mangaluru, part of Manipal health enterprises, leading healthcare provider will soon introduce the latest technology Rotablator and 3D mapping system that will give cardiac care the high tech edge. Rotablator will be inaugurated on Friday, July 10 at 11.30 am by Dr Annapoorna Kini, director cath lab and interventional cardiology, professor of cardiology, Mount Sinai school of medicine, New York.

The 3D Mapping system will be inaugurated on Saturday, July 11 at 3.30 pm by Dr Jayaprakash Shenthar, professor electrophysiology unit from Sri Jayadeva institute of cardiovascular science and research, Bengaluru at cardiology department.

Speaking at a press meet here on Thursday July 9, Dr Anand Venugopal, medical superintendent, KMC Hospitals Mangaluru said “The team of cardiologists at KMC Hospital Managluru are experts at handling any cardiac case and now with the addition of the only cardiac electrophsiologist in Coastal Karnataka Dr Maneesh Rai K, the department can handle specialized treatments required for Arrhythmias, syncope and heart failure devices etc for which patients had to travel to metro cities before.”

Dr R L Kamath, HoD, department of cardiology KMC hospital, Mangaluru said, “The Rotablator technology can remove plaque by abrading atherosclerotic material producing millions of micro particle smaller than RBC which are cleared by RE System, it also improves initial success rate and reduces the restenosis rate in coronary angioplasty. The 3D Mapping system can treat Complex Tachy Arrhythmias with better accuracy and efficiency. Tachy arrhythmia, a subset of cardiac arrhythmias, is a heart condition whereby the heart rate increases to alarming rates, due to which the patient might have palpitations, faintness and in certain worse cases may result in cardiac arrest or sudden death."

The patients treated by cardiologists specialized in electrophysiology study and radiofrequency ablation thus are known as cardiac electrophysiologists. The latest technology known as 3D cardiac mapping would help the electrophysiologist to localize the area of reason for the Tachycardia to utmost accuracy using highly sophisticated Algorithm with minimal of Xrays and give painless Catheter Ablation to the spot thus providing better solutions to the patients Arrhythmic woes.

“KMC Hospital is a pioneer and only institute that offers complete care of Cardiac Arrhythmias in the area of Mangaluru. Since 2014, we at KMC Hospital, have completed more than 130 EP study RF Ablation procedures, more than 100 permanent pacemaker implantations and 20 devices for heart failure and sudden death. With the acquisition of the latest Technology – Ensite Velocity (Version 4 with Precision™- enabled with both Navx and Array ), KMC hospital would be the only hospital in the region that would be equipped to treat complex cardiac tachy cardias such as atrial flutter, ventricular tachy cardia, atrial tachy cardia ,to name a few, with better results.

"Ensite velocity is a proprietary mechanics using impedance based technology which allows the Electrophysiologists to create 3D image of the patients heart on the computer. This helps the electrophysiologists to locate the area of interest/reason for the cardiac tachycardia with critical accuracy to ablate the region ensuring better success for the procedures. Ensite Velocity with Navx™ and Array ™ – allows both contact mapping and non-contact mapping thus giving the physician more and better options to use during the Procedure to treat both sustained and non-sustained tachycardia’s improving the efficacy of the whole procedure. Given the fact that, radio frequency ablation is a proven Therapeutic solution for cardiac tachycardia’s, it is a significant offering to the patients coming to KMC Hospital” stated Dr Maneesh Rai K, cardiac electrophysiologist KMC Hospital Mangaluru.

Saghir Siddiqui, unit head KMC Hospital Mangaluru said, "KMC hospital has taken a new stride in the direction of the building a world class cardiac- electrophysiology lab thus enabling its Electrophysiologists to have a better control and less risk during EP procedures culminating in improved and better treatment of its patients. In additional to this facility the Hospital will also conduct an educational session by conducting a CME to the doctors of Mangaluru at Hotel Ocean Pearl on the same evening. Dr Jayaprakash Shenthar, will deliver a lecture on 'Utility of 3D mapping for mapping and ablation of complex arrhythmias'."
