Udupi, Jul 9: A bullet tanker that was moving towards the town from the direction of Kundapur went awry when passing from near Herur, Brahmavar in the taluk. The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday July 8.
It is presumed that driver lost control over the vehicle, as a result of which the tanker went away from the road and headed 30 feet down the steep gorge. Its front portion sank into a well located in the gorge.
Some people claiming to be connected to the tanker said that the driver and cleaner of the vehicle are safe. As both of them were not at the spot, the reality will be known once the tanker is lifted out of the gorge with the help of crane today.
The people heaved a sigh of relief as the tanker was empty when this accident occurred. They feel that if the tanker was loaded, this accident would have resulted in catastrophe.
