Bengaluru, Jul 9: An 11-member committee high level panel constituted by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has recommended creation of Greater Bengaluru Authority under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister for marketing ‘brand’ Bengaluru.

The committee headed by senior Congress leader B L Shankar has submitted its report to KPCC president Dr G Parameshwara at the party office in Bengaluru on Thursday.

The high level committee recommended formation of the Greater Bengaluru Authority for chalking out mega plans for the city.

The Committee has made wide-ranging recommendations for restructuring the BBMP wards and BBMP.

The Authority would consist of principal secretaries and heads of Bangalore Development Authority, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, (BWSSB), City Corporation Mayor, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company.

The Authority would also consist of experts in various fields and a fixed number of City MLAs.

It has suggested a three-tier system of administration in the corporation: wards, corporation (BBMP) and Greater Bengaluru Authority.

However, the B L Shankar committee has remained silent on division of the existing Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

But it has suggested number of wards to be carved out in the event of splitting the BBMP into three or five corporations.

On the lines of similar Acts in Mumbai and Kolkata, the committee also recommended the necessity of having a separate Act for Bengaluru.

Currently, the Bengaluru City has been administered as per the Karnataka Municipality Act.
