Swamiji accused of trying to rape school girl, attempts suicide

Kalaburagi, Jul 10: In an incident which occurred at Kamalapura in the taluk, the swamiji of a math tried to rape a school girl.

Shantaveera Swamiji (49), spiritual head of Shanteshwara Math in Kamalapura has been accused of attempting rape of a minor girl.

As soon as the issue became public, the swamiji tried to end his life by hanging himself. He was saved and rushed to a private hospital in the town for treatment. It is said that he is out of danger now, and almost completely recovered.

The Kamalapura police said that on the basis of a complaint filed by the girl's parents, a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered, and that investigation has been initiated. They said steps would be undertaken to subject the swamiji to medical test once he is released from the hospital, after which he would be produced in the court.
