Woman jumps to death from terrace of her apartments complex

Udupi, Jul 10: A woman jumped from the terrace of her apartments complex at Kalsanka in the city and ended her life on Thursday July 9 morning.

Sumita Upadhyaya (47), who committed suicide in this fashion, was suffering from mental disorders, it is learnt. She used to reside in one of the flats in the building with her father.

Sumita had married a person named Sudarshan Upadhyaya from Karkala about 25 years back. She used to stay with her husband at Chennai and had two children. After she began suffering from mental problems since the last about 10 to 12 years, she was treated at Chennai. As her mental condition was not congenial for family life, and there was lack of understanding between the couple, the couple had divorced four years ago, policemen said.

The lady was going through mental depression of late. At around 6.30 am on Thursday, she went up unnoticed and jumped down from the terrace of her five story building, meeting instant death. On the basis of a complaint filed by her father, Srinivas Acharya, a case of unnatural death stands registered in the town police station here.
