Kasargod, Jul 13: Amir Ali alias Ammichcha (62), who was highly dependable and popular for his social service initiatives and was in the habit of rushing to the help of the needy in Manjeshwar, Kumble, and Ullal surroundings, breathed his last on Sunday July 12 due to cardiac arrest. Ironically, he was engaged in the task of delivering the body of a deceased person to Karkala, when his end came.

Receiving Ramlans Charitable Trust Award recently

Ammichcha is survived by wife, three sons, and three daughters.

Amir Ali had dedicated his entire life for serving the needy. The police had cultivated the practice of summoning him whenever some unidentified bodies were found in Manjeshwar, Kumble, or Ullal areas. Because of his quick response and humane service, a number of people who were injured grievously in road accidents had survived. He also was relied on for transporting pregnant women to hospitals. He was always ready to extend help to unknown mental patients, beggars etc to hospitals and followed up this gesture by keeping tab on their health condition.

In appreciation of his services, Khidmatul Islam Kujattur unit had provided him with a new ambulance vehicle. He also had worked tirelessy to strike communal harmony in the area. He had built an army of volunteers for serving the society.

When an Air India Express flight crashed at Mangaluru some years back, Ammichcha rushed there. Many recollect that he had transported a number of charred mortal remains from the site.

On Sunday morning, Ammichcha had volunteered to take Noor Ali residing in a rented room in Kunjathur to a hospital at Derelakatte. During this visit to the hospital, he saw that a family from Karkala was struggling to find an ambulance to take the mortal remains of a person from their family. Ammichcha opted to carry the body to Karkala, but by the time the vehicle reached Thokkottu, he suffered from severe chest pain. He then handed over the ambulance to someone else and walked to a local hospital. As soon as he reached the hospital, he suffered cardiac arrest and breathed his last.

A large crowd rushed to Kunjathur to have the last glimpse of this social service volunteer, after hearing about his death.
