Nigerian president fires military chiefs

Abuja, July 13 (IANS): Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday fired military chiefs, a move obviously made to re-position the military in the fight against Boko Haram, a presidential spokesman said.

Replacements for the sacked military chiefs will soon be announced, Garba Shehu, a spokesman of the president, told Xinhua.

The military chiefs -- Alex Badeh, the defense chief; Usman Jibrin, the navy chief; Kenneth Minimah, the army chief; and Adesola Amosu, the air force chief -- were appointed in January 2014 by former Nigerian leader Goodluck Jonathan.
