Kundapur, Jul 16: It has been raining cats and dogs in Kundapur since Tuesday July 14, though the morning of Thursday July 16 brought some respite. The two days of heavy rain has inundated several low lying areas in the port areas of Kundapur and Gangolli.

There is a flood-like situation on the main roads of Kundapur and Gangolli. As the gram panchayat had not cleaned the drains in advance to allow free flow of rain water, the rain water has remained stagnant on the roads hindering smooth flow of traffic.

Rain water has entered the house of Shantarama Shenoy near Arekallu Gangolli causing huge loss. Water has also entered several houses, restaurants and shops nearby. With knee-deep water on roads, traffic has come to standstill.

The main road near Vijayavittala Mantapa to Kalaikar Math was water-logged on Wednesday July 15 and vehicle drivers and pedestrians had a hard time. People in Malyarabettu, Dakuhitlu, Durgikeri, Kharvikeri and other places are facing difficulties. People have alleged that apathy of the local administration has caused the problems and warned that if the administration does not find a solution, they will lock up the panchayat office and protest.

There are reports of large scale destruction in Kanchugodu, Hosadu and other places. Rain water has entered houses and inundated low lying areas. However no loss of life is reported.
