North Korea invited to Seoul's regional security forum


Seoul, July 17 (IANS): South Korea has invited North Korea to a Seoul-hosted regional security forum, a media report said on Friday.

The ministry sent the invitation in the name of Vice Defence Minister Baek Seung-joo to his North Korean counterpart, a ministry official told Xinhua news agency.

This is the first time that South Korea has invited the North in the Seoul Defense Dialogue (SDD), a regional security forum to discuss ways of building military trust in the Asia-Pacific region.

Various issues relating to peace and security in the region and the world will be discussed during the forum which is scheduled to be held here from September 9.

About 250 military officers from 32 countries and four international agencies are expected to attend the forum this year.
