Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated in Telangana, Andhra on Saturday

Hyderabad, July 17 (IANS): Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

As the new moon was sighted on Friday in some parts of both the states, Markazi Ruwait-e-Hilal or the central moon sighting Committee announced that Eid will be celebrated on Saturday.

Moulana Syed Mohammed Qubool Pasha Shattari, president of the committee said moon was sighted in Warangal in Telangana and Vijayawada in Andhra Praadesh.

The moon of Shawwal was also sighted in Kurnool, Nandyal, Adoni, Guntur and other parts of Andhra Pradesh.

Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the culmination of holy month of Ramadan, is one of the two major festivals of Muslims.

Elaborate arrangements have been made for Eid prayers in both the states. In Hyderabad, all arrangements are in place for prayers at eidgahs or open grounds and major mosques.

Meanwhile, lakhs of Muslims offered prayers of Jumatul Vida Aor last Friday of Ramadan in mosques across the two states.

The largest congregation was held at the historic Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad, where police had made elaborate security arrangements.

The imams or priests in their sermons on the occasion exhorted Muslims to continue good deeds after Ramadan and follow the path shown by Islam till their last breath. They said Ramadan was a month long training aimed at inculcating piety in them and develop empathy towards the poor and have-nots.
