Rs.6.31 crore to Amitabh for DD Kisan promotion unwise: Congress

New Delhi, Jul 18 (IANS): The Congress on Friday said the decision of national broadcaster Prasar Bharti to pay Rs.6.31 crore to Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan for endorsement and promotion of recently launched DD Kisan channel was not an act of wisdom.

Congress leader Salman Khurshid said farmers were facing distress and the money should be spent on them.

"It is an issue concerning farmers. We are aware of their condition. However big an artiste, giving more than Rs.6 crore for a message and not spending on farmers... I do not think it is wisdom," he said.

"It is a matter of perception that (a) voice, (a) face will make it successful. It will be better to spend the money on farmers and not publicity," Khurshid said.

The public-funded Doordarshan's Kisan channel was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May.

    In Karnataka [ take any state] kisans are dying everyday and Amithabh Bachchan is paid lavishly for promotion of kisan in DD. What an intelligence the government is exhibiting. In the beginning I thought the Government will be doing something good for the poor. Their so called ACHCHE DIN is only and only for the richest. And the PM is roaming around the world for his achche din using all the wealth he can avail and enjoying with full satisfaction. I am sure their party will not be voted to power in the next general election.

    without prejudice..., for reason better known to the top political think tank of the govt of the day, in my view it is nothing but an effort by the Govt., to match & prove that Big B's advertisement fee is at par with King Khan's (SK, SRK & AK)
