China develops weapon that uses microwave energy

Beijing, July 18 (IANS): China has developed a microwave-directed energy weapon that causes a burning sensation to its target, a media report said.

“China's microwave directed energy weapon has been displayed in an exhibition,” People’s Daily reported on Friday.

“The device which is called WB-I is a non-lethal directed energy weapon. It uses high-power light waves to bring instant burning sensation to the targets and make (them) run away,” the report said.

The effective radius of the weapon is 80 meters, which can reach one kilometer after increasing its transmission power.

The report said that the weapon can be used in anti-terrorism and anti-pirate operations.
